2018 - 2019 Annual Scholarship Winners
The Affinity Plus Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of its $5,000 scholarships for the 2018-2019 school year!
Michael B. – Baxter
Michael is a high school senior who is active in volunteering in many organizations, including leadership positions on hospital boards and related internships. He has taught a course for 8th grade students aimed at reducing teen pregnancy, he has participated in sports, and traveled for two mission trips with his church. Michael has learned that volunteering enriches his live as much as those who he serves.
Noah I. - Bemidji
Noah is a busy high school senior who plays the alto saxophone, is active in jazz and marching bands, serves his fellow students as a link volunteer, and regularly teaches children at his church through Sunday School. His life’s ambition is to change his community – and the world – through his faith, and he has participated in mission trips around the country and the world.
Maria K. - Plymouth
Maria is a high school senior in the West Metro who is passionate about literacy. She has created a non-profit literacy organization that is driven to make the world a better place – one book at a time. Maria has collected and distributed more than 2.2 million books to kids in need.
Sarah W. - River Falls, WI
Sarah is a graduate student at the University Wisconsin-River Falls majoring in speech-language pathology. Through her studies and her work in the on-campus speech-language and hearing clinic, Sarah has developed a passion for this field and an even greater desire to provide exceptional therapy to the clients that she serves. She is especially passionate about working with children, and she is grateful to be pursuing a profession that challenges her, interests her, and allows for meaningful interactions with others.
Justin H. - St. Paul Park
Justin is a junior at Haverford College in Pennsylvania where he is pursuing a double major in math and Russian. He makes an effort to go “above and beyond” through community volunteerism, currently working to build a fun, educational, student-oriented website for a local college. Justin also tries to brighten the world through everyday actions, kindness and courtesy.
Klarissa W. - Battle Lake
Klarissa attends North Dakota State University studying agricultural economics and international studies. She serves in the National Guard, currently training to become a United States Army Officer. She hopes to become an adaptive leader in the Army, making a positive impact on communities, her state, her country, and the world.
Lauren H. - Lake Crystal
Lauren is a college senior who attends Minnesota State University – Mankato studying biomedical science and minoring in chemistry. Lauren is an avid volunteer who strives to give her best to her community, supporting a variety of organizations by giving of her time and talents to establish long-term plans for success.
Michael N. - Elko
Michael works full-time and is a student at Dakota County Technical College where he is studying network administration and software development. He regularly volunteers at his church, Feed My Starving Children, and through other local charities, food shelves and clothing drives. Michael has three children who he is focused on mentoring them into adulthood to be successful, contributing members of the community.
